A 25-year-old lady has been freed by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) after her father reportedly locked her away in a room for years in Jigawa state.
This was confirmed by CSC Adamu Shehu, the spokesperson of the Jigawa State NSCDC Command, on Wednesday.
He claimed that this was in response to a complaint that a human rights activist had made to the NSCDC State Command Headquarters alleging that a girl named Ummi, who was about 25 years old, had spent years being locked up in a room without being allowed to leave by her father.
According to CSC Shehu, the girl, who looked unhappy, unkempt, and underweight, was saved by NSCDC agents.
He explained that her food was provided on a bare floor and that the area she was residing in functioned as both her toilet and her place to urinate.
According to CSC Adamu, the corps has detained two people from Takur Site, Dutse LGA, Jigawa State: 67-year-old Garba Musa, her biological father, and his 50-year-old wife, Aisha Abubakar.
He added that the command is investigating the matter.
