Confessing to their crime, a four-person criminal gang has recounted how it murdered a father, Makanjuola Ogedengbe and sexually assaulted his 10- and 14-year-old daughters in Ibadan, Oyo state on Friday.
Abolade Morenikeji, one of the suspects, stated that they attacked the victim at his residence in Apaataku/Onireke, Akobo Ibadan, and that their gang leader, Sodiq, shot the man when he was fending off the suspects.
Abolade noted that he was among those who sexually assaulted the deceased’s daughters, even though he wasn’t the one who killed him. Blaming the Devil for the evil act, he added that he just became a member of the group and that it was his second operation.
Adewale Osifeso, the spokesperson for the Oyo State police, stated that the suspected criminals raided the neighbourhood on May 14 and robbed residents of their properties, but also killed Ogedengbe and sexually assaulted his two daughters in the process.
According to Osifeso, who pointed out that the case had already been handed over to SCID Iyaganku for investigation, Ibrahim Rasaq, Abiodun Olalekan, and one Abolade Morenikeji, who were previously detained for their involvement in an armed robbery operation at Sawia Estate, Ogbere, Ibadan, were found to be members of the same gang that invaded the Apaatuku/Onireke community.
The spokesperson added that the community security guards killed Sodiq, the purported leader of the gang. The community’s night guard is also currently getting medical attention, as he was shot by the perpetrators. Adebayo Salami, a main receiver/informant of the group and landlord at Ajara Olohunda, Akobo, Ibadan, was detained in connection with the case on June 16 at about 3 a.m.
Phones, gold chains, watches, cutlasses, substances believed to be Indian hemp worth over 3 million naira, Colorado, various native charms, and other hard substances were among the things found on the suspects.
