A female soldier has allegedly shot a senior officer to death at a security checkpoint in Yola, Adamawa State.
According to reports, the soldier was following the order of the Adamawa State government-imposed curfew.
The Adamawa State governor, Gov Ahmadu Fintiri, issued the curfew after hoodlums stormed government storehouses and looted many products, including palliatives meant to mitigate the effects of the removed fuel subsidy.
The female soldier, known as Lance Corporal Nkiru, allegedly shot a captain who sought to interfere in her argument with people at the Yola Fire Service Roundabout.
It was said that the female soldier requested that motorists returning home during curfew hours, especially those on important duty, turn back.
A security official who confirmed the incident stated that some people detained at the checkpoint pointed out they were labourers performing necessary jobs, but the female soldier insisted they return.
However, as a captain stepped forward to help, sadly, the soldier had already cocked her gun, so she mistakenly shot and killed him.
The deceased was pronounced dead at the Federal Medical Centre in Yola, while the suspect was apprehended and taken away by soldiers.
