A 30-year-old man, Dolapo Wemimo, was arraigned on Thursday before the Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly impersonating a soldier.
Wemimo, who resides in the Ijesha area of Lagos, is said to have worn a military camouflage uniform and paraded himself as a soldier in order to extort money from people.
The prosecutor, Inspector Rita Momoh told the court that the offence was committed on August 11, at the Berger area of Lagos.
Momoh said that the offence contravened Section 380 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
The charge read: “That you, Dolapo Wemimo, on August 11, 2023, at Berger, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District did, commit felony to wit: impersonation and unlawful possession of Army uniform and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 380 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
Wemimo however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, Mrs Adeola Olatunbosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one responsible surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned until November 13 for mention.
