Pastor Ifeoluwa Akindayomi, the last born of the founder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pa Josiah Akindayomi, has passed away. He was 62.
He died on Sunday, November 2 — exactly 45 years after his father’s transition and just seven months after the passing of his elder brother, Pastor Kolade Akindayomi, who died on May 4.
According to a family friend who spoke with Church Times, the death was sudden and shocking.
“Nobody would have thought he would die barely 24 hours after he was chairman of a wedding ceremony,” the source said. “He was very okay and had no sign of any illness.”
The source explained that he had gone for a routine prayer walk on Sunday morning at the Redemption Camp in Ogun State and returned home to prepare for Sunday service when tragedy struck.
“He missed his steps and fell headlong, hitting his head on a sharp object in the house,” the family friend said. “He sustained serious head injuries and passed out. Before he could be rushed to the hospital, the worst had happened.”
Until his death, Pastor Akindayomi was an Assistant Provincial Pastor in Ogun Province 5 of RCCG. He was also a successful entrepreneur who ran a vibrant printing press.
His wife and children, who have long relocated to Canada, were said to have been urging him to join them. But he reportedly remained in Nigeria because of his business and ministry responsibilities.
He had recently secured permanent residency in Canada and was preparing to relocate to reunite with his family before his untimely death.
A childhood friend and fellow RCCG pastor, Debo Akinyemi, described him as a humble and gentle man.
“He was not given to show,” Akinyemi said. “Many never knew he was the son of the founder. He lived quietly, loved people, and was passionate about God’s work.”
Akinyemi, who recalled their days together at Molusi College, Ijebu Igbo, said Pastor Ifeoluwa lived without airs or entitlement.
“He would not fight for anything. One would think he would have risen to the highest ranks in the church, but he chose to stay low. I am devastated.”
Pastor Ifeoluwa’s death is regarded as a huge loss to RCCG and the Christian community at large.
He celebrated his 60th birthday two years ago in grand style and was said to bear a striking resemblance to his late father, Pa Akindayomi.
Members of the church and family friends continue to mourn a “great soldier of Christ” whose life of devotion and service touched many.
He is survived by his wife, children, extended family, and the global RCCG community he faithfully served.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
