Police launch ‘Operation Kosaye’ in Lagos, Ogun, arrest 88 suspects, rescue five kidnap victims

The Nigeria Police Force has launched Operation Kosaye (“No Chance”), a joint security operation across Lagos and Ogun states, resulting in the arrest of 88 suspects, the rescue of five kidnapped victims, and the killing of four suspected kidnappers.

Speaking during the official launch of the operation at the Police Training College in Iperu, Ogun State, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said the initiative was introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and is aimed at eliminating criminal activities, including kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes, across both states.

According to Ojajuni, operatives conducted extensive bush-combing exercises from Lagos through Ogun to the Oyo State boundary, clearing identified criminal hideouts and shanties. A total of 84 suspects—comprising 75 males and nine females—were arrested during the exercise.

He disclosed that the operation also led to the rescue of five victims who were kidnapped along the Ore–Ogbere Road on Thursday. During the rescue mission, police neutralised four suspected kidnappers and arrested four others.

Recovered items include AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, English-made and locally fabricated pistols, ammunition, battle axes, cutlasses and mobile phones.

Ojajuni urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by reporting anyone seen with gunshot wounds or suspicious movements.

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, dismissed reports suggesting bandits had infiltrated Lagos and Ogun, assuring residents that security operatives had thoroughly combed forests and other vulnerable areas in both states.

He said the operation would continue as part of sustained efforts by the police to keep the two states safe, while commending the governors of Lagos and Ogun for supporting the initiative.
