Breaking: Nationwide blackout as grid collapses — Second time in a week

Nigeria has been plunged into a nationwide blackout for the second time in a week—and in 2026—as all electricity distribution companies (DisCos) recorded zero megawatts (0MW) as of 10:54am on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

Load data shows that Abuja, Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ibadan, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt and Yola DisCos all received no power supply, bringing the total national load to 0MW.

This latest collapse underscores ongoing instability in the national grid. As at the time of reporting, power sector authorities have yet to issue an official explanation for the outage.
