At least 23 people have been confirmed dead and 146 others injured following multiple explosions that struck Maiduguri on Monday night.The attacks occurred in busy areas of the city, including the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Monday Market, and the Post Office district, causing widespread panic and casualties.
According to officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), a total of 169 victims were evacuated and taken to various medical facilities across the city. Of these, 108 are currently receiving treatment at UMTH, while others are being treated at Umaru Shehu Hospital and Maiduguri Specialist Hospital.
Residents described the incident as a disturbing return to violence in a city that had experienced relative peace in recent years. Security agencies have since deployed explosive ordnance experts and emergency responders to assess the situation and restore order.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm but vigilant as investigations continue and security presence is reinforced across affected areas.
