Abba Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, declaring that his political decision is personal and based on his convictions.
Abba, Founder and Chairman of the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO), made the declaration during a press conference in Abuja, where he unveiled plans for a nationwide mobilisation campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He said his support for Tinubu was an independent political choice, acknowledging that it could attract public attention because of his family relationship with the former vice president.
According to him, political convictions are matters of personal judgment and conscience, adding that individuals should be free to make political decisions independent of their family affiliations.
He said the HBTO was established to mobilise Nigerians who believe in Tinubu’s leadership and the reform agenda of the All Progressives Congress-led administration.
On the administration’s performance, Abba acknowledged that Tinubu’s economic reforms had brought difficult adjustments for Nigerians but argued that their progress, opportunities and long-term benefits should also be recognised.
He highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), saying the initiative had expanded access to interest-free educational loans and eased the financial burden on families.
He also cited investments in roads and transportation infrastructure, increased allocations to state governments through the Federation Account Allocation Committee, and interventions aimed at cushioning the effects of economic challenges.
Abba further announced that the organisation would commence a transportation support programme with the provision of 10 luxury buses.
The initiative, which will begin in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, is expected to expand to other parts of the country.
He said the programme was designed to translate political support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda into practical interventions that would benefit Nigerians.
The HBTO chairman also disclosed plans to organise a two-million-man mobilisation march across the six geopolitical zones, beginning in Abuja.
Working with Wike
Abba said the organisation was working with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, whom he described as a key political figure in its mobilisation structure.
He said the group’s immediate priority was to support Wike’s efforts to secure victory for Tinubu in the FCT in 2027.
According to him, the organisation is aligned with the minister’s objective of delivering both the FCT and Rivers State for the president in the forthcoming election.
He also announced plans for a major political mobilisation exercise in Rivers State next week, saying the organisation had begun activating its structures and mobilising supporters ahead of the exercise.
Abba explained that the group’s strategy went beyond public rallies and political appearances, stressing that it was building a coordinated grassroots network capable of converting political support into votes.
He added that the organisation would establish structures across the six geopolitical zones while collaborating with political stakeholders, community leaders, youth organisations and women’s groups.
He expressed confidence that the HBTO would contribute significantly to Tinubu’s re-election campaign and the continuation of his administration’s reform agenda.
