Wike credits Tinubu’s backing for accelerated FCT projects

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has attributed the rapid pace of infrastructure development in Abuja to the strong support and insistence on timely delivery by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on Wednesday after inspecting several ongoing projects across the FCT, Wike said the President’s hands-on approach and commitment to quality service delivery have been key drivers of progress.

According to him, Tinubu not only provides the necessary backing but also closely monitors project execution to ensure deadlines and standards are met.

“Mr President is not just giving us support, but ensuring that jobs are completed on time and with the expected quality. When you have such backing, there is no excuse for failure,” Wike said.

He noted that regular inspections help track contractors’ performance in terms of speed and quality, ensuring projects are delivered as scheduled.

During the tour, Wike expressed satisfaction with work on the Arterial Road S1 project, linking Ring Road II to the FCT Fire Service Station in Kaura District, stating it could be completed within five months.

He also confirmed that the extension of Obafemi Awolowo Way (N5), connecting Gwarimpa, Life Camp, Dape District, and Karmo, has been fully completed and is ready for inauguration as part of activities marking the President’s third year in office.

At the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Wike inspected newly constructed housing units for staff, which he said are completed and ready for occupation. He also assessed ongoing hostel projects, commending progress on the female hostel expected to be delivered by November.

However, the Minister expressed concern over the slower pace of work on the male hostel, urging the contractor to accelerate efforts despite assurances of completion within the same timeframe.

Wike further disclosed that a contract has been awarded for the construction of an auditorium at the institution, with work set to commence soon.
