Eid rush triggers massive gridlock on Abuja-Kano highway

Thousands of travellers heading home for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations were stranded in severe gridlock along the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway following ongoing road rehabilitation and heavy rainfall.

The situation, which has persisted for days, caused frustration among commuters as travel times stretched far beyond normal. In response, Minister of Works David Umahi directed contractors to reopen all accessible sections of the highway to ease traffic flow.

Security operatives have also been deployed to maintain order, while authorities confirmed that an accident which worsened the congestion has been cleared.
