Adeboye gives security chiefs 90-day deadline to defeat terrorists

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Nigeria’s security chiefs to eliminate terrorists within 90 days or step down from office.

Speaking in a video shared on the church’s official X account on Tuesday, Adeboye called on the Federal Government to take decisive action against the country’s worsening security challenges.

The cleric said that while religious leaders can only offer advice, the responsibility for enforcing security measures ultimately rests with the Commander-in-Chief.

Adeboye recalled advising former President Muhammadu Buhari to give security chiefs a deadline to defeat Boko Haram and other criminal groups. According to him, Buhari issued the directive but failed to enforce consequences when the target was not met.

“He gave the order as Commander-in-Chief, but after the three months elapsed and the task was not accomplished, no further action was taken,” Adeboye said.

The RCCG leader urged the current administration to ensure that security operations target not only terrorists but also those who finance and support them, regardless of their status or influence.

“When issuing directives to security chiefs, government should make it clear that both terrorists and their sponsors must be brought to justice,” he added.

Adeboye’s remarks come amid growing concerns over insecurity across Nigeria, including recent kidnappings, attacks on communities, and the abduction of students and teachers.

The latest incident occurred in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, where gunmen attacked two schools and abducted dozens of pupils and teachers. Following the attack, President Bola Tinubu ordered the deployment of a specialised security unit to intensify rescue efforts and strengthen security in the area.
