The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary closure of the Iddo Bridge in the Ijora area of Apapa Local Government Area to facilitate ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction works on the bridge.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, explaining that the closure is necessary for the installation of heavy steel bridge beams by the Federal Ministry of Works.
According to Osiyemi, the installation will be carried out in two phases: from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, to 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21.
He stated that the entire section of the Iddo Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic during the specified periods to ensure the safe execution of the installation exercise.
To reduce traffic disruptions, the commissioner advised motorists travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain to use Funsho Williams Avenue. Those travelling from Marina to Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain were urged to descend the ramp to Iddo-Onigbe, connect through Oyingbo and continue via Murtala Muhammed Way.
Motorists heading from Ijora Olopa and Apapa towards Carter Bridge and Marina were advised to use Eko Bridge, connecting through Apapa Road, Murtala Muhammed Way, Iddo-Onigbe and Carter Bridge.
Osiyemi appealed to road users for patience and cooperation with traffic management officials who will be deployed to manage vehicular movement during the temporary closure. He assured residents that adequate traffic control measures would be put in place to minimise inconvenience and ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the exercise.
