Fire guts Polaris bank building, damages vehicle in Lagos Island

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully contained a fire outbreak at the Polaris Bank Building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, preventing what could have been a major incident in the busy commercial district.

The fire, which broke out at about 11:33 a.m. on Thursday, affected a stationary saloon car parked on the third floor of the 17-storey building, which also serves as a parking facility.

According to the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, emergency responders from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu fire stations were swiftly deployed to the scene following a distress call.

She confirmed that firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the building.

“The only damage recorded was to the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings. No casualties or injuries were reported,” Adeseye stated.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire.

Videos circulating on social media showed thick smoke rising from the building as residents, workers and business operators gathered around the area while emergency personnel battled the blaze.

The prompt intervention of firefighters helped contain the incident and ensured the safety of occupants and nearby structures.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
