The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has appointed Hon. Afam Victor Ogene as its new spokesperson.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the Leader of the Minority Caucus, Hon. Fredrick Agbedi, following an online meeting of the caucus held on Friday, June 19, 2026.

Ogene, who represents Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State in the House of Representatives, currently serves as the leader of the Nigeria Democratic Party Caucus in the Green Chamber.

According to the caucus, the appointment reflects its confidence in Ogene’s legislative experience, parliamentary knowledge, and commitment to democratic governance.

A ranking lawmaker, Ogene is also an award-winning journalist and editor. The caucus noted that his background in both journalism and lawmaking positions him well to effectively communicate its positions on national issues and deepen engagement with the Nigerian public.

As spokesperson, he will be responsible for articulating the views and policy positions of the Minority Caucus, providing information on its activities, and promoting its constitutional role of holding the Executive accountable.

The caucus expressed confidence that Ogene’s appointment would strengthen its communication strategy and reinforce the principles of checks and balances within the 10th National Assembly.

It also called on members of the media and the public to extend their cooperation to the lawmaker as he assumes his new responsibilities.

The announcement was signed by the Minority Caucus Leader, Hon. Fredrick Agbedi.
