Atiku, Obi lack capacity to unseat Tinubu in 2027 — Gagdi

Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Navy, has said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi have not demonstrated the political strength or organisation needed to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Tuesday, the Plateau lawmaker argued that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains far ahead of the opposition in political mobilisation across the country.

Gagdi said he had seen no convincing evidence that either Atiku or Obi was putting in place the structures required to unseat Tinubu in the next general election.

According to him, the APC has sustained political activities nationwide over the past year, insisting that its level of engagement is significantly greater than that of any opposition party.

He also rejected the suggestion that only opposition politicians were preparing for the 2027 polls, stressing that the APC and President Tinubu were equally focused on securing another electoral victory.

Drawing from his experience in Plateau State, Gagdi noted that Peter Obi failed to win in the Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam federal constituency during previous elections, adding that he secured victory there in 2023 under the APC with a margin of about 31,000 votes.

The lawmaker further criticised some opposition leaders, accusing them of exploiting Nigeria’s security and economic challenges for political advantage rather than offering practical solutions to the country’s problems.
