Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama, the self-styled President of the Borno State Youths Association (BOSYA), has been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on terrorism-related charges bordering on the alleged financing and support of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram.

Kaigama, who was recently arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS), was brought before Justice Salim Ibrahim on a four-count charge alleging that he concealed information about terrorist activities, raised and collected funds under the guise of negotiating the release of kidnap victims, and provided financial and material support to the two proscribed terrorist groups.

The Federal Government also alleged that he knowingly dealt in terrorist funds by facilitating financial transactions for ISWAP and Boko Haram between January and June 2026 in Abuja and Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

Kaigama pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The prosecution, led by Dr. Caliatus Eze, urged the court to remand the defendant in the custody of the DSS, citing national security concerns and the need to ensure his safety. Justice Ibrahim granted the application, ordered that Kaigama receive adequate medical attention while in custody, and adjourned the case until September 24, 2026, for the commencement of trial.

Kaigama had drawn public attention last week during an interview on Channels Television in which he admitted holding discussions with Boko Haram members over alleged ransom payments for kidnapped victims. Security sources also claimed the DSS possesses evidence linking him to the alleged extortion of victims’ families. However, these allegations remain before the court and have not been proven.
