Nigerians spend ₦1.7tn on MTN data in H1 2026

MTN Nigeria earned ₦1.699 trillion from data services in the first six months of 2026, highlighting the sustained demand for internet connectivity despite prevailing economic challenges.

According to the telecom giant’s unaudited financial results for the period ended June 30, 2026, data revenue rose by 38.3 per cent from ₦1.229 trillion recorded in the corresponding period of 2025, making it the company’s largest revenue stream ahead of voice services.

MTN posted total revenue of ₦2.99 trillion, while profit after tax climbed to ₦694.54 billion, supported by strong growth in data usage, improved operating performance and an expanding subscriber base.

The company added 4.9 million new subscribers during the period, increasing its customer base to 92.2 million, while active data users rose by 2.5 million to 55.7 million.

Chief Executive Officer Karl Toriola said MTN maintained strong commercial momentum, improved profitability and robust cash generation despite a challenging operating environment, noting that demand for its services remained resilient.
