Veteran journalist and founder of Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, has died at the age of 56.

Oladipo reportedly took ill suddenly at his office in Lagos on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. He later drove himself to a hospital, where he died hours later.

His death was confirmed by the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), where he previously served as president.

The guild’s president, Danlami Nmodu, announced his passing on the organisation’s WhatsApp platform on Tuesday night.

Oladipo was also the founding president of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS).

In a statement on Wednesday, the cooperative’s General Secretary, Nkanu Egbe, described his death as a devastating loss to Nigerian journalism.

Oladipo had a journalism career spanning nearly three decades. He worked with Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass and The Sun before joining PUNCH Newspapers, where he served as politics editor.

He later founded Eagle Online and became the Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited.

Funeral arrangements and other details are expected to be announced by his family and professional associates.
