The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Pascal Ogbogu, for allegedly killing his 56-year-old father in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the incident occurred on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

According to Ikenga, Ogbogu allegedly attacked his father with a machete before fleeing the scene.

He said operatives from the Eziowelle Police Division mobilised to the area after receiving a distress call, alongside family members and members of the Abatete Vigilance Group.

The responders reportedly found the victim’s lifeless body in a pool of blood, with a deep machete wound to the throat.

“The body was subsequently evacuated to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy,” Ikenga said.

He added that coordinated efforts by the police and members of the community led to the suspect’s arrest in the early hours of Wednesday.

Ikenga said timely information and cooperation from residents assisted security operatives in tracking and locating the fleeing suspect.

The police spokesperson further stated that the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

He said the transfer would facilitate a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, adding that the suspect would be subjected to due process upon the conclusion of the investigation.
