President Bola Tinubu will officially launch his 2027 re-election campaign in Kaduna on October 24, the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has announced.
Yari disclosed this on Friday after briefing the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on preparations for the campaign.
He said the campaign council’s inaugural meeting would hold on October 14 at the State House Banquet Hall, ahead of the nationwide campaign activities.
According to Yari, Tinubu has approved a timetable for visits to states across the country, with Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Maiduguri, Borno State, scheduled as the next destinations after Kaduna.
He said the full campaign itinerary would be made public after the council’s inauguration.
Yari also expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election, arguing that a presidential candidate must have substantial support in both northern and southern Nigeria to win.
He questioned the electoral strength of opposition candidates, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
Yari argued that neither candidate could demonstrate control of a state in both regions, adding that electoral support concentrated in one part of the country would not be sufficient to win the presidency.
Citing the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s electoral experience, Yari said Tinubu enjoyed broader national support, claiming that the President had the backing of more than 10 states in each region.
The former Zamfara State governor also defended the administration’s performance, insisting that the economy was improving and that the APC would campaign on its achievements rather than promises.
“We are not promising. We are doing it, and we are going to continue,” he said.
Tinubu appointed Yari as Director-General of the presidential campaign council on August 22, 2026, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named secretary. The President chairs the council, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice-chairmen.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027. Campaigns are expected to end on January 15, 2027, in line with the commission’s timetable.
