The management of the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Management Board (LITFCMB) has declared zero tolerance for counterfeit products following the arrest of two persons allegedly involved in the revalidation of expired drinks and production of fake consumables.
The Board condemned the use of its facility for activities that endanger public health, insisting that the complex was established to support legitimate trade and ethical business practices.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Board’s Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Veronica Ndanusa, said investigations had commenced into the incident to prevent a recurrence.
She warned that anyone found engaging in activities that threaten public safety or undermine local manufacturing would face the full weight of the law.
Ndanusa said the Board would work with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and other relevant regulatory and law enforcement agencies to eliminate illegal activities within the complex.
She commended NAFDAC for its enforcement operation, stressing that the facility must remain a safe environment for legitimate businesses.
The chief executive also urged traders and business operators to uphold acceptable standards, warning against prioritising profit over consumers’ health and safety.
She reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to protecting the reputation of the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex as a major commercial hub and safeguarding public confidence in locally manufactured products.
