2027: Obi will humble Tinubu, Soludo in South-East — Momodu

African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Dele Momodu, has predicted that Peter Obi will defeat President Bola Tinubu and his supporters in the South-East during the 2027 presidential election.

Momodu made the prediction on Wednesday during an interview on Prime Time, an Arise News programme, describing Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as a highly popular figure in the South-East and South-South.

“Peter Obi is a rock star where he comes from, especially in the South-East and the South-South,” he said.

He argued that Obi’s popularity in the two regions could pose a significant challenge to Tinubu’s re-election bid, adding that the president would need strong support across all three southern geopolitical zones to secure victory.

Momodu also said Tinubu would have to work harder to win votes in the North, where he benefited from the support of former President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2023 presidential election.

“The scenario is different this time. Peter Obi will humiliate Tinubu and all his supporters in the South-East and some parts of the South-South,” he said.

“And that’s dangerous for Tinubu, because for Tinubu to win, he needs to lock down all the three regions in the South.”

Despite his assessment of Obi’s popularity, Momodu said he was supporting former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

Obi Will Defeat Soludo in Anambra, Momodu Says

Momodu also predicted that Obi would defeat Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the state during the 2027 presidential election.

Soludo, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has declared support for Tinubu, who belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and was subsequently named a member of the president’s campaign council.

“I can bet my life on it that Peter Obi will humiliate and disgrace Soludo in Anambra State. I have no question about that,” Momodu said.

Soludo has recently criticised Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, alleging that his administration left behind debts and unpaid salaries.

Obi, however, has maintained that he cleared the state’s debts before leaving office in 2014.
