‘We will kill them’: Omo-Agege issues deadly warning to 2027 election riggers

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has threatened that anyone caught manipulating the 2027 general election could be killed.

Omo-Agege, who is seeking to reclaim the Delta Central senatorial seat under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), made the threat at a political event in his constituency.

“Anybody who rigs the election on that day, we will kill him! If you don’t value your life, come and rig the election,” he said.

He added that attempts to manipulate the election would be met with resistance, declaring, “It is rig and die. We’re going to give them aura for aura. There’s no court this time. We’re going to fight.”

The former senator announced his intention to contest the Delta Central seat in May 2026. He subsequently resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a letter dated May 22, addressed to the chairman of the party’s Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Omo-Agege said his decision to leave the APC followed weeks of consultations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders.

His threat comes about a week after President Bola Tinubu directed security agencies to ensure free, fair and credible elections in 2027.

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, disclosed the president’s directive while briefing State House correspondents after a meeting of the National Security Council, presided over by Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Musa said the president had instructed security agencies to provide a safe environment for Nigerians to exercise their democratic rights, regardless of their political affiliations.

According to the minister, Tinubu emphasised the need for credible elections and directed security agencies to ensure that citizens could vote without fear or intimidation.

Musa also assured opposition parties that security personnel would remain neutral and would not intimidate candidates or prevent any party from participating in the elections.
