The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has called on Nigerians to reject former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 general elections over alleged failure by the party to pay its staff for 12 months.
The council accused the ADC National Working Committee, led by Senator David Mark as chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as secretary, of neglecting the welfare of party workers despite the party’s promises to Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Monday, the council’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, described the alleged non-payment of salaries as “wicked and reprehensible”, arguing that a party unable to cater for its workforce could not be trusted to govern the country.
“We find it unconscionable that a political party that has made many grandiose promises to hoodwink Nigerians owes its workers for more than 12 months,” the statement said.
The APC campaign council further questioned the credibility of the ADC’s leadership, describing its members as insincere politicians seeking power for personal gain and out of hostility towards President Bola Tinubu.
It also accused Atiku of having a record of owing employees, alleging that workers at his Gotel Communication and other businesses had experienced months of unpaid salaries and staged protests over outstanding wages and benefits.
The council also criticised Aregbesola’s eight-year tenure as governor of Osun State, accusing his administration of mismanaging the state’s finances and failing to pay workers and pensioners their entitlements.
According to the statement, the administration introduced quarter-salary and, at times, half-salary payments for workers, while pensioners allegedly went unpaid for more than four years.
The APC campaign council claimed that the situation caused severe hardship among pensioners, some of whom, it alleged, died after being unable to afford basic necessities.
“We are therefore not surprised that ADC, harbouring birds of the same feather, cannot pay its workers’ salaries,” the statement added.
The ruling party’s campaign council urged Nigerians, particularly workers, to reject the ADC and its candidates in the next general elections, insisting that the alleged failure to pay party staff exposed the opposition party’s inability to manage public affairs responsibly.
It maintained that a political party aspiring to govern Nigeria must demonstrate accountability and show concern for the welfare of its workforce.
The statement was signed by Alake on October 26, 2026.
