Adeleke dumps PDP for Accord Party – seeks second term in 2026

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally declared his membership of the Accord Party as he prepares to seek re-election in the August 8, 2026 governorship poll.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the party, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

Adeleke had earlier resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on December 2, citing prolonged leadership crises at the national level. In a letter dated November 4 and addressed to the PDP chairman in his ward, he disclosed that he joined the Accord Party on November 6 after weeks of consultations.

The governor said the decision was driven by the party’s strong emphasis on welfarism, which aligns with his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare. He added that the platform would enable him to complete ongoing projects and consolidate the gains of his first term.

Adeleke urged Accord Party members and supporters to remain united as the state heads toward the 2026 election, stressing that inclusive leadership and continuity of good governance remain his priorities.

He further expressed admiration for the party’s philosophy, noting that its people-centered approach reflects the true essence of governance.

“Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026,” he said, expressing confidence that the Accord Party would lead the state to victory next year.
