After EFCC arrest, E-Money urges Nigerians to celebrate without disrespecting our currency

Businessman and socialite Emeka Okonkwo, widely known as E-Money, has taken to social media to deliver an important message aimed at curbing the practice of spraying currency at celebrations. In a recent Instagram post, E-Money called on Nigerians to cease this activity, emphasizing its illegality and the potential consequences associated with it.

Referencing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), E-Money warned that throwing or spraying money during parties constitutes currency abuse, a violation of Nigerian law. “Let’s celebrate responsibly and avoid fines. Respect our currency!” he urged his followers.

He went on to provide guidance on how to give money at events, stating, “If you must give money at a party, please place it in a basket, bowl, or container in front of the celebrant. Do not drop any currency on the floor.” E-Money also stressed that ignorance of the law would not serve as a valid defense if individuals found themselves facing repercussions.

This announcement follows reports that E-Money was recently apprehended and interrogated by the EFCC regarding allegations of currency abuse, particularly concerning the misuse of the Naira and U.S. Dollar at social events. The EFCC has ramped up efforts to enforce regulations, particularly targeting high-profile figures who are seen mishandling cash in public.

As the agency continues its crackdown on these illegal activities, E-Money’s call for responsible celebration resonates strongly within the current socio-economic climate in Nigeria.
