Hakeem Odumosu, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, has denied rumours that he was named the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) chairman.
According to reports that surfaced on Tuesday, the Senate has to confirm Odumosu’s appointment.
Newspread reported that the former anti-graft agency chairman was suspended by President Bola Tinubu due to unethical behaviour while in office.
Bawa was then interrogated by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Odumosu, however, refuted knowledge of the appointment in a signed statement issued on Wednesday.
Addressing the rumours, Odumosu said he had received a tonne of calls and emails about an alleged “EFCC Appointment” in the last two days. He refuted the information and referred to the appointment news as false, advising Nigerians to ignore the rumour.
“This information must have emanated from mischief makers and should be totally disregarded,” the former Commissioner of Police, Lagos State said.
