Anambra Killing: Chukwuma condemns insecurity, commiserates with victims’ families, SuperSport

Sir Paul Chukwuma, a leading APC aspirant in Anambra’s upcoming governorship race, has expressed sorrow and frustration over the worsening security situation in Anambra State following the deadly ambush of a SuperSport crew on the Ihiala-Orlu Road. The attack, which left a cameraman, a police officer, and the driver dead, has underscored the state’s deepening insecurity, sparking national outrage and casting doubts on the government’s response to rising violence.

In a statement released through his spokesperson, James Eze, Chukwuma extended condolences to the families of the deceased, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and SuperSport, whose longstanding commitment to Nigerian sports has brought joy to fans nationwide. He commiserated with the Nigerian Army, which reportedly suffered casualties in the rescue operation, acknowledging their bravery and sacrifice in attempting to save lives.

“This attack has not only placed Anambra in an unfavourable light but has revealed the urgent need for stronger security measures across our state,” Chukwuma stated. “Our thoughts go to the Nigerian Army, whose courageous response during the rescue attempt is deeply appreciated. We mourn with the families of the deceased and stand in solidarity with all who are grieving.”

While thanking the security forces for their swift efforts, Chukwuma called for a more proactive approach from the state government to address the rising insecurity, which has disrupted daily life and tarnished Anambra’s reputation. “The people of Anambra deserve safety and security. Incidents like this should serve as a wake-up call for the government to fulfil its responsibility to protect lives and restore peace to our communities,” he added.

The incident has drawn national attention, with many questioning the state’s ability to provide adequate security and urging the government to take decisive action to curb the violence endangering lives and livelihoods in Anambra.
