APC Ondo set to suspend party chairman for assaulting commissioner

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that it will mete out punishment to the party chairman of its Ondo chapter, Mr. Olumide Awolumate, for allegedly physically assaulting Mrs. Juliana Osadahun, the state commissioner for women affairs and social development.

Newspread reported that in an altercation with the commissioner that was caught on camera, the embattled chairman was seen allegedly injuring the commissioner’s head while distributing palliatives in Arigidi Akoko on Sunday.

The party’s state chairman, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, expressed displeasure over the alleged attack on the commissioner in a Monday interview on the incident and said the party would meet to discuss it today, Monday.

He claimed that in their party (APC), indiscipline is not condoned. The chairman would be dismissed for engaging in such a conspicuous, humiliating act.

He continued by saying that he had given the party chairman in the local government instructions to summon everyone to Akure today, where they would consider and apply the proper sanctions as needed. The ward chairman would, however, be suspended.

Princess Oluwatosin Ajirotutu, the Deputy Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, criticised the alleged assault on the commissioner. She urged the state police command to detain and charge the APC leader.

The lawmaker claimed that seeing the video footage that surfaced and generated chaos in the media and Arigidi in Akoko Northwest of Ondo State as a result of the Ondo State Government’s instruction on subsidised palliatives distribution across the state is troubling and inhumane.

“The action of Mr. Awolumate Olumide on Hon. Adebunmi Osadahun is condemned and he should be arrested and made to face maximum disciplinary sanction by the Ondo State Commissioner of Police while the Attorney General of Ondo State should prosecute Mr. Olumide immediately”, she said.

She added that any area of Ondo State and the nation at large should not accept violence against women. Due to the sensitive responsibilities that they play in society, women deserve our compassion in any situation.
