A supporter was reportedly shot dead and several others injured during a violent clash at the APC House of Representatives primary election in the Ikotun area of Lagos State on Saturday.
The incident occurred at a primary school in the Ile-Iwe area of Egbe, where party members had gathered for the primary election. Witnesses said the exercise was initially peaceful before a disagreement erupted among rival supporters, leading to chaos and gunfire.
Residents said people fled the venue in panic after gunshots were heard, with some jumping fences and hiding in nearby homes. One victim who sustained gunshot injuries was rushed to the hospital but reportedly died on the way, while several others were injured during the stampede and confusion.
Police sources disclosed that additional security personnel, including the Divisional Police Officer and Area Commander, were deployed to restore order. Authorities have yet to confirm any arrests, while APC officials had not released an official statement as of press time.
The incident adds to growing concerns over recurring violence during political primaries and elections in Nigeria.
