The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his recent remarks likening Nigeria’s economic situation to historic revolutions in France, Russia, and the Arab Spring, describing the comments as reckless, irresponsible, and unbecoming of a statesman.
In a statement on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party accused Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, of “tacitly instigating a revolution” under the guise of critiquing the policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“Atiku’s statement is a new low in a streak of incendiary commentaries. It is reckless, irresponsible, unpatriotic, and degrading to his status as a former Vice President,” the APC said.
The party recalled that during Atiku’s tenure as Vice President under the PDP, the country had unprecedented oil revenues but failed to address hunger, poverty, and insecurity. Instead, the APC alleged, the PDP “democratized hunger and poverty” and entrenched corruption.
The statement also referenced the controversial $16 billion power project during Atiku’s time in office, accusing him of being “clueless about solving Nigeria’s economic challenges” then, and equally “clueless now.”
Morka insisted that President Tinubu’s economic reforms were already yielding results, pointing to declining inflation and improving indicators. He accused Atiku of being blinded by desperation and disoriented by his fading political future.
“Atiku hardly resides in Nigeria and will not be available to partake in the destruction and mayhem that the revolution he is instigating will bring,” the APC cautioned, urging Nigerians to ignore the opposition leader’s remarks and continue to support the Tinubu administration.
The party concluded by warning that while critique of government policies is within the bounds of democracy, “instigating violent uprising is not protected freedom.”
