Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday turned out en masse at Keffi, Nasarawa State, in a solidarity rally for a former Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar Adamu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adamu, has since signified interest in contesting for the governorship of Nasarawa State under the platform of the APC.

The mega rally, coordinated by the members of the Mohammed Abukakar Adamu Support Group Organisation (MAASGO), began before midday on Monday.

The carnival-like rally was a spectacle as supporters sporting branded tshirts and vests with different inscriptions thronged out in large numbers converging at the starting point at the Nasarawa State University, NSUK Gate, Keffi, from where the procession moved to other parts of the metropolis.

The procession accompanied by drummers, flutists and others moved from streets-to-streets sharing pamphlets showcasing the achievements and performance records of the retired top cop while he heldsway at the Nigerian Police Force.

The supporters bearing different placards with inscriptions such as ‘Muje IGP 2027’ (Let’s go IGP 2027), ‘Nasarawa Project MA 2027’, ‘Walin Lafia for Governor of Nasarawa State,’ ‘Tinubu/Rtd IGP Adamu We Know 2027 Join the Moving Train now,’ and several others, openly canvassed support for the candidacy of the Ex-IGP Adamu ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Addressing newsmen during the rally, Awal Nurain, a member of the support group, accompanied by other members said the mega rally today officially marked the beginning of the mobilisation and campaign for Ex-IGP Adamu by his support group.

While giving the rationale behind the rally, Nurain argued that the candidacy of the Ex-IGP Adamu has been well received by the people of Nasarawa State judging by the show of solidarity from people from different walks of life.

According to him, “As you can see the mega rally today has been massive. It is there for all to see in the massive crowd that came out today to canvass support for the retired IGP Adamu. The love and support from our people is really overwhelming. This shows that he is truly a man of the people and Nasarawa State will be very lucky to have someone like him as governor come 2027.

“The venue of the mega rally happening at Keffi, in Nasarawa West Senatorial District, which is supposed to be the base of Senator Aliyu Wadada is also a strong indication that all the odds favour Ex-IGP Adamu.”

Expatiating, Nurain said, the Ex-IGP Adamu has had a record of excellent performance and meritorious service all through his career in the police force hence the people are convinced that he will do better even as the governor of Nasarawa State.

“I’m more than convinced that Retired IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu has what it takes to lead Nasarawa State as the governor. If we go by his past records of performance in public service as a police officer where he rose through the ranks to become the IGP, that is no mean feat by any standards,” he stressed.

“The people of Nasarawa State will be lucky to have him as governor and that is why members of the Mohammed Abukakar Adamu Support Group Organisation (MAASGO), have no qualms at all throwing our weight behind him and want to rally support for him ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he reiterated.

With the APC gearing up for the party primaries across the state of the federation, gubernatorial hopefuls like Ex-IGP Adamu, who is contesting for the first time in an elective position, are not leaving any stone unturned in their quest to gain political advantage.

Even in spite of political realignments and permutations in some quarters that that the governorship should be zoned to Nasarawa West Senatorial district, opinions are divided against such arrangement and more in favour of a level playing field for all candidates.
