Terrorists struck again in Bungudu town, the local government area’s administrative centre in Zamfara State, reportedly taking hostage, no fewer than seven people.

According to reports, the armed bandits entered the town, which is about 20 kilometres from Gusau, with heavy weapons, kidnapped seven people – two men and five women — and killed one.

Speaking about the incident, Alhaji Ibrahim Bungudu, a local, said that the abductees were Prince Abdulrahman Hassan Attahiru, the emir of Bungudu’s son; a former IPAD State programme officer; three of Alhaji Umaru Sanda’s wives; the wife of one Abdullahi Zubairu; and the wife of one Hamisu Rabi’u.

He said that the kidnappers had not requested a ransom and that the families of the kidnapped people were not willing to speak with reporters about the incident.

When contacted, Abdulmalik Zubairu, a family member of one of the kidnapped people and member of the House of Representatives for the Maru/Bungudu federal constituency, said the incident was devastating and regrettable and that the government would do everything in its power to ensure the restoration of peace and quiet in the state.

Prior to this invasion, bandits had assaulted the divisional police headquarters in Bungudu early in the morning of August 7, killing one Asst. Police Officer (ASP) Nura Ibrahim, who was set to get a new rank (ASP) that day.

All involved authorities, particularly security agencies that also lost a large number of active people, are paying close attention to the banditry resurgence in the State.
