Tina Knowles-Lawson, the mother of superstar, Beyoncé and her sister, Solange Knowles, has filed for divorce from her husband, actor Richard Lawson. The couple had been married for eight years.

According to TMZ, Knowles-Lawson, 69, filed for divorce on Wednesday, citing “irreconcilable differences.” She requested that the court terminate its ability to award spousal support to either party.

Lawson, 76, is a veteran actor who has appeared in films and television shows such as “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Scandal,” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” He is also the father of actress, Bianca Lawson.

Knowles-Lawson and Lawson met in the early 1980s and became friends. They reconnected in 2013 and began dating shortly thereafter. They were married in 2015 in a ceremony in Newport Beach, California.

The couple had no children together. Knowles-Lawson has two daughters from her previous marriage to Mathew Knowles, and Lawson has a daughter from his previous marriage.

A representative for Knowles-Lawson has not commented on the divorce filing.

Many online outlets say the news of their divorce comes as a surprise, as the couple had always appeared to be happy together.
