The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially received a petition seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The petition was received by INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, on Monday.
This development sets in motion the recall process, which is governed by strict guidelines. To succeed, the petition must garner “YES” votes exceeding 50% of the total registered voters in the constituency, not just those who participate in the vote.
The entire process must be completed within 90 days from the date INEC receives the petition.
As the recall process unfolds, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan will continue to carry out her duties as a senator, although she is presently on suspension for unruly behaviour during plenary. The outcome of the petition remains uncertain.
