Burna Boy becomes first African artiste to fill 80,000 capacity stadium in UK

Burna Boy has sold out an 80,000-capacity stadium in London, United Kingdom becoming the first African artiste to headline a UK stadium as a solo musician.

On Saturday night, the Grammy winner hosted a spectacular performance of ‘Love, Damini’, his 19-track album, to the energetic concertgoers at West Ham United’s Stadium in London.

The Afrobeats superstar also treated the audience to no fewer than 49 songs from his impressive catalogue of hits as the crowd sang along with him.

The concert had guest appearances including international artistes like Stormzy, Popcaan, Dave & Jhus.

The UK stadium management announced the ‘Way Too Big’ crooner’s latest achievement on Twitter.

“Now sold out!! @burnaboy’s record breaking concert has now officially sold out!” it wrote.

“What an incredible achievement for the first ever African artist to solo headline a UK stadium! For those lucky enough to make it, enjoy the show.”

The London Stadium has 60,000 seats when operating in football mode and is 80,000 capacity for concerts.

The singer was also presented with a plaque for the record-breaking feat.

Born Damini Ogulu, Burna Boy started to gain fame after releasing ‘Like to Party’, the lead single from his debut album ‘L.I.F.E’ (2013).

In 2021, the singer set a record in Nigeria after his fifth album ‘Twice As Tall’ won the ‘Best World Music Album’ category at the Grammy Awards.

Over the course of his blistering career, Burna Boy has performed and sold out some notable venues across the globe.

In April, he was ranked the African artiste with the highest revenue from a single concert.

Burna Boy will be performing at the 2023 UEFA Champions League (UCL) final on June 10.
