Cheers as Senator Natasha returns after office reopens

The political tension around Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan eased on Tuesday as jubilant supporters welcomed her back to the National Assembly following the unsealing of her office, News360 Nigeria reports.

Deputy Director of the Senate’s Sergeant-at-Arms, Alabo Adedeji, led a team of security officers to officially reopen Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing, marking the end of more than six months of restriction.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 after a heated clash with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the reassignment of her seat. Though her suspension technically expired in September, lingering legal hurdles delayed her reinstatement until now.

The reopening of her office is widely seen as a sign that the Senate may be softening its stance.

In a viral video, the Kogi Central senator appeared all smiles as she was surrounded by cheering supporters, many of whom vowed to escort her back to plenary sessions.

For her allies, the move signals the close of a protracted standoff and raises hopes that she will soon return fully to her legislative duties.
