Dangote Refinery rejects marketers’ push for ₦1.5trn subsidy

The management of Dangote Refinery has dismissed calls by petroleum marketers for a subsidy mechanism that would amount to about ₦1.5 trillion annually, insisting it will not shoulder costs to align with depot pricing.

In a statement, the refinery said the demand came from the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), which allegedly requested a discount of ₦70 per litre on coastal freight, NIMASA, NPA and related charges, plus an additional ₦5 per litre for vessel pumping into Apapa depots.

Dangote Refinery noted that the figure was derived from Nigeria’s estimated daily consumption of 40 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 15 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

The company stressed it would neither adjust its gantry prices nor revive a subsidy regime that previously drained trillions from the economy. Instead, it encouraged marketers to lift products directly from its gantry to benefit from its logistics-free model.
