Aliko Dangote, chairman of Dangote Group, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Farouk Ahmed, former chief executive officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), over alleged financial misconduct.
Dangote accused Ahmed of abuse of office, corrupt enrichment, and living beyond his legitimate means. The fresh petition, addressed to EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede, urges the commission to probe Ahmed for “financial misconduct, violation of the code of conduct for public officers, and related offences.”
The move follows an earlier petition submitted in December 2025 to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) through Dangote’s lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, in which Ahmed was accused of corruption and financial impropriety.
Ahmed resigned from office on December 17, 2025, after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu. Dangote later withdrew the ICPC petition on January 7, before approaching the EFCC.
In the EFCC petition, Dangote said the commission is well positioned, alongside other anti-graft agencies, to investigate and prosecute financial crimes once a prima facie case is established, citing recent court decisions in support of his position.
Dangote further alleged that Ahmed spent more than $7 million on the education of his four children in Switzerland over a six-year period. The schools listed include Montreux School, Aiglon College, Institut Le Rosey, and La Garenne International School.
According to Dangote, the scale of the expenditure far exceeds what Ahmed could have earned legitimately during his career as a public servant, raising serious questions about the source of the funds.
