The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has denied that former Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai is a member of the party.

According to Idris Inuwa, assistant national secretary for the northwest zone, el-Rufai did not follow the proper membership process.

The former governor had announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the SDP on March 10.

However, Inuwa stated that the ward and state chapter of the SDP have no record of el-Rufai’s membership.

Inuwa emphasized that prospective members, including el-Rufai, must register at the ward level to officially join the party. He also opposed the dissolution of the Kaduna state working committee of the SDP by the national working committee (NWC).

The Kaduna chapter of the SDP remains open to prospective members who adhere to established procedures, Inuwa added.
