The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has provided detailed guidance to airport users on its GoCashless Airport Card as full enforcement of cashless payments takes effect across its managed airports nationwide.
The FAAN GoCashless Airport Card is a prepaid contactless payment card designed to enable travelers, motorists and other airport users to make fast, secure and convenient payments at designated revenue points. The initiative, powered in partnership with Paystack, aligns with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s cashless policy and the Federal Government’s push for electronic payments and improved transparency in revenue collection.
Multiple Cashless Options Available
According to FAAN, several cashless payment options are now available at its airports:
- FAAN Contactless Airport Card – The fastest option, with payments processed in about two seconds via a simple tap-and-go method, and no additional transaction charges.
- E-Tags – Designed for frequent airport users, particularly for access gates.
- VIP E-Tags – Special access solutions for approved users.
- Bank Debit or Credit Cards (Chip and PIN) – Users can pay with regular bank cards, although such transactions attract a government processing fee of approximately ₦162.
FAAN recommends the Contactless Airport Card or E-Tag options for quicker access and to avoid extra charges.
Where the Card Can Be Used
The FAAN Airport Card can be used at FAAN-managed payment points nationwide, including access gates, car parks, lounges and other service points. The card works across major airports such as those in Lagos and Abuja, as well as other FAAN-managed facilities across the country.
How to Register
FAAN said registration is straightforward and takes only a few minutes. Users are encouraged to register and fund their wallets before arriving at the airport gate to avoid delays.
To register, users are required to:
- Create an account at www.gocashless.faan.gov.ng or scan the QR code available at the airport.
- Verify their details using an OTP sent to their mobile phone and/or email.
- Receive a personal virtual account number via SMS for wallet funding.
- Fund the wallet with a minimum of ₦2,000 from any Nigerian bank.
- Collect a physical card at any FAAN Airport Access Gate or the Office of the Head of Commercials.
- Link and activate the card through the online dashboard.
Registration is free; however, a one-time card issuance fee of ₦500 is deducted from the wallet balance to cover the cost of the physical card.
Key Differences from Bank ATM Cards
FAAN explained that unlike regular bank ATM cards, which require chip-and-PIN authentication and attract processing fees, the FAAN Contactless Card is specifically designed for airport payments. It processes transactions within seconds, does not attract additional charges, and allows multiple cards to be linked to a single wallet account.
Users can register multiple cards under one account and share them with family members, friends or staff, while managing payments from a single wallet balance.
Nationwide Access and Support
Once registered, the card works at all FAAN-managed airports nationwide without the need for re-registration. International travelers visiting Nigeria can also register and use the card, though it is valid only within Nigeria and at FAAN-managed locations.
In cases of registration issues, lost or stolen cards, users are advised to contact FAAN’s customer support desk at the airport, call 0700-227-3226 (0700-CBS-FAAN), or email gocashlesssupport@faan.gov.ng.
Enforcement in Line with Government Directives
FAAN noted that the GoCashless system has been operational since October and that cashless payments are now being fully enforced in line with Federal Government directives promoting electronic payment adoption across public services.
Airport users are therefore strongly encouraged to obtain and fund their FAAN Airport Cards ahead of travel to ensure seamless access and avoid delays at entry points.
