Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, entered a not-guilty plea on Tuesday before the Federal High Court in Lagos to an allegation of unlawfully owning a firearm that the Ministry of Justice had brought against him.
He was charged with the possession of unlicensed guns on two counts during his arraignment.
In the first count, Emefiele was charged with violating Section 4 of the Firearms Act and Section 27 (1b) of the same Act by having “a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371)” without a permit.
For the second allegation, the suspended CBN governor is charged with violating Section 8 of the Firearms Act and Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act by possessing “123 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges)” without a permit.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo granted Emefiele bail and adjourned the case to November.
