Ex-Army Chief Yahaya moves to sue General over sponsorship of terrorism claims

Former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has commenced legal action to clear his name following allegations linking him to terrorism financing.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, former Army spokesperson, retired Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, said the claims were made by retired Maj.-Gen. Danjuma Ali-Keffi during a broadcast interview.

Usman disclosed that Yahaya, through his legal team led by Mohammed Ndayako (SAN) served formal demand notices on the individuals and media organisations involved. The notices, dated December 17, 2025, demanded a full retraction, unreserved public apologies, and an immediate halt to further publication within 72 hours.

The notice warned that failure to comply would result in legal proceedings, describing the allegations as false, malicious, and capable of eroding public confidence in national institutions.

According to Usman, Yahaya said the legal action was aimed not only at defending his personal integrity but also at upholding professionalism, truth, and accountability, stressing that deliberate falsehoods would not go unanswered.
