Residents of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, were thrown into panic on Monday evening following multiple explosions that rocked parts of the city.
The blasts, suspected to have been caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by Boko Haram terrorists, occurred in several locations, including the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Monday Market Roundabout, and the El Kanemi area.
Witnesses said the first explosion was heard at about 7:00 p.m., shortly after Muslims broke their Ramadan fast, sending residents into shock and confusion.
As of the time of filing this report, it remained unclear whether there were casualties from the explosions.
The incident occurred hours after terrorists reportedly attacked a military position in Ajilari, an outskirt of Maiduguri. According to sources, the attackers set parts of the location ablaze and made away with a military patrol vehicle.
Troops, however, were said to have successfully repelled the attack, killing some of the terrorists while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
Further details are expected as authorities continue to assess the situation.
