A 35-year-old Ayuba Danbaki, a father of six has been arrested for allegedly killing his two-year-old daughter named Tamar Ayuba Danbaki. He has confessed to committing the crime, stating he was angry with the mother of the child who dumped her with him at a local bar, around 8pm.
Danbaki a resident of Rigi village, Ga’anda District in the Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa state confessed to have strangled his daughter with a rope in a bush and buried her in a shallow grave.
The suspect said he had an argument with the mother of the child who confronted him at a local bar around 8:00pm where he was drinking a local alcoholic beverage known as burukutu.
He said she complained she was fed up and could no longer foot the bills associated with the child’s upkeep, dumped the baby with him and walked out of the bar leading him to commit the crime which was termed a mistake.
Parading the suspect before newsmen at the Adamawa State Police Command on Wednesday, the suspect while confessing to the crime said:
“I killed my daughter because I became angry as to the reason why her mother will dump her with me at a local joint.
“I tied a rope around her neck, dug a grave and buried her. I’m married and blessed with six children, including the deceased. I became angry with her mother’s action. It was a mistake.
“I drink local beer known as burukutu. I want to use this opportunity to advise people not to drink beer because it is not good. It makes someone useless.”
The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Nguroje while speaking on the incident said the suspect was arrested August 8, following a report by a 30-year-old Shiyona Ali, the mother of the child.
Nguroje said the suspect immediately after his arrest, said he was not aware killing his child was a crime and that most residents in their community are also ignorant of the consequences of such actions.
The PPRO said the suspect after admitting and confessing to the crime immediately led the state police to where he buried the deceased.
He added that the state Commission of Police, CP Babatola Afolabi, has ordered the matter be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the command for discreet investigation.
