The Lagos State Government has announced the cancellation of the 2025 edition of the Greater Lagos Fiesta, which was scheduled to hold on December 31, 2025.
The decision was approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and conveyed in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile.
According to the statement, the Governor directed that instead of the annual Greater Lagos Fiesta and Countdown to 2026, residents of the state should dedicate the period to personal prayers for Nigeria, Lagos State, and the wellbeing of its people.
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged Lagosians to pray for the continued prosperity, peace, productivity, leadership, and general wellbeing of the state and the nation at large.
He expressed optimism about the coming year, assuring residents that 2026 holds great promise for Lagos State and Nigeria. The Governor also called on residents to continue to live together in peace and harmony.
“On behalf of my family, I wish every resident of our dear state a happy and prosperous new year. I want to assure you all that the year 2026 will be a better year for us in the state, as our administration is determined to work twice as hard to deliver the goods for the residents,” the Governor said.
The statement was signed by Mr Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, and dated December 30, 2025.
