President Bola Tinubu has announced a major change to his itinerary, rescheduling his official visit to Kaduna State in order to prioritize peace efforts in Benue State. The President will travel to Benue on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, to take direct action in addressing the ongoing conflict that has plagued local communities.
The objective of the visit is to personally assess the situation resulting from the recurring crisis, which has led to countless fatalities and widespread destruction.
During President Tinubu’s stay, he will engage with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political figures, religious leaders, community representatives, and youth organizations, in a collaborative effort to identify and implement lasting solutions to the unrest.
To ensure thorough preparation for this important visit, the President has directed the immediate deployment of senior officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees to Benue State.
The President has also scheduled a town hall meeting during his visit to facilitate open dialogue with all stakeholders involved.
In his previous statements, President Tinubu has condemned the violence in Benue State, urging all leaders and citizens to embrace a spirit of peace, compassion, and mutual respect. He has extended his deepest condolences to the families affected by the crisis and those who have experienced significant losses.
Originally, President Tinubu was set to visit Kaduna State on the same day to commission various government projects; however, this has been rescheduled to Thursday, June 19, 2025, to ensure his full attention is on the urgent matters at hand in Benue.
