Security operatives have arrested four suspected bandits near the Akure Airport in Ondo State following a coordinated security operation.
In a statement issued late Sunday, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said the suspects were apprehended after security personnel noticed suspicious movement behind the airport perimeter close to the Eleyewo community.
According to the statement signed by Henry Adegbire, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, a joint search operation was immediately launched involving multiple security agencies.
The operation included FAAN’s Aviation Security (AVSEC), the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, as well as local security outfits.
During the search, several individuals reportedly attempted to flee the area, but four suspects were eventually captured and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force Area Command for further interrogation.
FAAN commended the swift collaboration among aviation security personnel, the military, police, Amotekun corps, and community vigilantes, noting that their joint efforts led to the successful arrest.
The agency also said the incident underscores the need to strengthen airport perimeter security. It added that phased efforts are already underway to improve protection across airports managed by FAAN.
FAAN reassured travellers and host communities of its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of airport facilities nationwide.
The development comes amid growing security concerns in parts of Ondo State, particularly in Akure North Local Government Area, where residents have recently staged protests over rising cases of kidnappings and killings.
