President Bola Tinubu has pledged that his administration will continue to sustain the legacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing them as rooted in discipline, integrity and the belief that public office is a sacred trust.
Tinubu made the pledge on Monday in Abuja at the State House Conference Centre during the unveiling of From Soldier to Statesman – The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, a 600-page biography authored by Dr Charles Omole.
The President said the book offers Nigerians an opportunity to reflect honestly on Buhari’s life and leadership, noting that true honour to the late leader lies in building on the foundations he laid. According to him, Buhari’s legacy gains greater meaning when successors choose continuity over rhetoric.
Recalling their long political association, Tinubu described Buhari as a brother, friend and partner, with whom he built a broad coalition that led to the historic 2015 electoral victory which unseated an incumbent president. He said their journey underscored the importance of cooperation across differences and responsible governance after elections.
Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umaru Radda, commended Tinubu for standing by the Buhari family and Katsina State, describing the late president as a symbol of discipline, patriotism and purposeful leadership.
Former service chiefs, security heads and senior officials who served under Buhari testified to his discipline, integrity and commitment to national security and democratic governance. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), and former IGP Mohammed Abubakar highlighted reforms and leadership standards introduced during Buhari’s tenure.
On behalf of the Buhari family, Hadiza Nana Buhari thanked President Tinubu for his support, including his commitment to completing the National Armed Forces PTSD Centre in Abuja, a project initiated during Buhari’s administration.
The event was attended by the President of The Gambia, Adama Barrow; First Lady Oluremi Tinubu; several state governors; senior government officials; traditional rulers; and members of the Buhari family.
